Language Abilities of Motor Cortex

چکیده
A new exploration of the cortical network underlying our language abilities by Hauk et al., in this issue of Neuron, shows that the process of giving meaning to words differentially activates the motor cortex according to the semantic category of the word.

Study and Assessment of Motor Abilities of Older Pre-School Children with Speech Disorder
Objectives: To identify and assess the level of development of motor abilities in older pre-school -age children with speech disorder. Methods: The study included 200 older pre-school age children, 100 children with a healthy level of speech development and 100 with speech disorder, in Belgorod and Belgorod region (Russian Federation). The study looked at scientific sources; motor abilities te...
متن کاملLanguage, Music, and Brain
Introduction: Over the last centuries, scientists have been trying to figure out how the brain is learning the language. By 1980, the study of brain-language relationships was based on the study of human brain damage. But since 1980, neuroscience methods have greatly improved. There is controversy about where music, composition, or the perception of language and music are in the brain, or wheth...
متن کاملOptical Imaging of the Motor Cortex in the Brain in Order to Determine the Direction of the Hand Movements Using Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS)
Introduction: In recent years, optical imaging has attracted a lot of attention from scholars as a non- aggressive, efficient method for evaluating the activities of the motor cortex in the brain. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS (is a tool showing the hemodynamic changes in a cortical area of the brain according to optical principles. The present study has been de...
متن کاملLeucomalácia periventricular e diplegia espástica: implicações nas habilidades psicolingüísticas*** Periventricular leukomalacia and spastic diplegia: implications in the psycholinguistic abilities
Background: spastic diplegic cerebral palsy (D-CP) is frequently related to periventricular leukomalacia (PVL), which usually affects the descending motor fibers of the association cortex and association fibers of the visual, auditory and somesthesic functions. Aim: to verify the performance of children with D-CP regarding their psycholinguistic skills. Method: participants were eight individua...
متن کاملIndividual differences in premotor and motor recruitment during speech perception.
Although activity in premotor and motor cortices is commonly observed in neuroimaging studies of spoken language processing, the degree to which this activity is an obligatory part of everyday speech comprehension remains unclear. We hypothesised that rather than being a unitary phenomenon, the neural response to speech perception in motor regions would differ across listeners as a function of ...
